ABOUT devbioindia.org

The domain devbioindia.org is the official website of the Indian Society of Developmental Biologists (InSDB), a premier scientific organization established in 1977 to promote research, collaboration, and education in the field of developmental biology across India.

FOUNDING AND MISSION:
InSDB was founded during a mini-symposium on Developmental Biology at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, in January 1977. The society was formally registered in Pune in 1979, with the Department of Zoology at the University of Poona (now Savitribai Phule Pune University) serving as its official address. The primary mission of InSDB is to foster regular interactions among scientists interested in the mechanisms of organismal development, facilitating the growth and dissemination of developmental biology research in India.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS:
InSDB organizes biennial meetings that serve as platforms for researchers to present their findings, engage in discussions, and foster collaborations. These meetings often feature participation from international scientists, enhancing the global exchange of ideas. Additionally, the society conducts conferences and training workshops across various regions of India, aiming to nurture young talent and advance the field of developmental biology.

MEMBERSHIP:
The society boasts a diverse membership of over 400 individuals, including life members, faculty, and students from universities and research institutions throughout India. InSDB actively encourages the participation of young scientists and students, contributing to the dynamic growth of developmental biology research in the country.

INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATIONS:
InSDB is affiliated with the International Society of Developmental Biologists (ISDB), aligning itself with the global community of developmental biologists and contributing to international scientific discourse.

ONLINE INITIATIVES:
InSDB has embraced digital platforms to further its mission, launching initiatives such as:

  • Gulmohar Postdoc Talk Series: A virtual series providing early-career scientists an opportunity to share their research and connect with peers.
  • Science Simplified: A program aimed at distilling complex research papers into accessible content for a general audience.
  • Behind the Bench: An interview series highlighting the journeys and work of InSDB members.
